There are two ways to biologically treat contaminated groundwater:
Biostimulation
Adding nutrients to stimulate existing microbes
Often microbes in the environment are limited for basic nutrients, so biostimulation involves determining if the contamination of concern can be transformed through the provision of simple nutrient amendments. Using this process we can quickly equip clients with clear data that determines whether biostimulation will be effective or not on their contaminated site.
Bioaugmentation
Adding microorganisms that are absent or at low abundance
Novorem’s suite of molecular tools can tell you if you’re missing essential catalytic cababilities, but microcosm studies are a great way to determine if adding bacteria will kick pollutant removal along at any given site. These cost-effective tests can be completed in less than a month and will reveal whether your contaminants can be transformed into harmless end products or proves that it is not a realistic option, making the decision for bioaugmentation easy.
