Enhancing the microorganisms already at your site – those that would naturally contribute to hydrocarbon degradation – is a highly effective, unobtrusive and trustworthy way to decontaminate groundwater and begin your environmental clean-up.
Using our proven and safe methods, Novorem stimulates the growth of existing beneficial microorganisms at your site. The different types of bacteria then break down the contaminants, making it a highly effective method of in-situ bioremediation.
How does nutrient formula work?
Often, the microorganisms required for biodegradation will already be present at your site. Key to effective bioremediation is enhancing the capabilities of these communities. Two strategies may be applied:
- Biostimulation – the addition of nutrients to feed microbes present at the site and motivate them to break down contaminants.
- Natural attenuation – requiring no intervention, only strategic monitoring to meet the demands of government regulators for evidence of site clean-up.

Types of nutrient formula

Aerobic biodegradation – Bush Brew 2.0
Remove hydrocarbons from contaminated groundwater or soil by stimulating the microbes that consume them. Hydrocarbons are oxidised by microbes using oxygen or nitrate as the electron acceptor. To encourage this activity, a specialised media based on Bushnell-Haas broth is recommended – free of reduced organic compounds, and providing bioavailable nitrogen, phosphorus and iron. Bench tests are recommended prior to biostimulation, but Novorem can provide this formula independently of other services.

Anaerobic biodegradation – Bioready
Remove chlorinated solvents from contaminated groundwater or soil by stimulating the microbes that consume them. Organochlorine-respiring bacteria require a source of reducing equivalents and low redox conditions; Bioready supplies a suitable slow-release electron donor and the nutrients needed to drive complete reductive dechlorination.
